AYSOccer U8 Austin

I admit, I did bribe my son with donuts after the game if he scored a goal. I was trying to motivate him. He loves donuts! I was kinda worried after I saw the position he started in. (defense) he was dancing around the field, bored outta his flipping mind. It was nothing to watch. Kain kept asking "when is Austin was going to play." The ball maybe came to his side once. He comes off the field for a water break and of coarse mentions that he's never going to score a goal in the position he was playing. I ignored his comment and just told him to keep up the good work. Be a good sport.
Half time comes and the coach put him up on the front lines. All I could think was... please Austin do a good job... Please don't dance around. He was already a little pissy because he was so bored and so outta sight in the game. ....
(Austin No. 5) Check it out.

Yup, I think he's nose picking bored......

BAM! Second half coach put him up on the front lines ............

The kid hustled, pushed and worked his butt off to get those goals. Tried 4 times at least and somehow missed with a good goalie on the other team. But he kept at it.
He was on FIRE. The folks on the sidelines were screaming his name.

He was more determined than I ever saw. People were coming up to Eric and I commenting that "he's on fire"....."He came out of the woodwork"....... I was smiling so hard on the inside. I thought maybe all our pep talks finally kicked into full gear. This kid was not about to give up. He went down a few times and I kept thinking "GET UP, AUS, GET UP" after a little time, He did... ran back to his position and pushed his way thru again.

I'm so proud of him. He did it.. He did not score any goals, But he went out there determined and never gave up. He played like his old self. We cheered, encourage and congratulated his every move. Even Kain was cheering him on.
They ended up winning 4-0. He did not get donuts because our deal was a goal, but we treated all 3 to Slurpies. And Mela and Kain both Said, "THANKS AUS" for playing hard in the game and getting us these slurpies.
I hope he keeps up this positive attitude. If so, It's going to be a great season!!!!
Both boys played really hard this weekend, but most importantly they BOTH had fun playing. That's all we ask... enjoy the game!!!!
